The Pike County Prosecuting Attorney says the actions of the deputies involved in a fatal shooting early Sunday morning appear to be justified based on everything that he has seen.
According to Pike County Prosecutor Robert Junk, Robert Rooker, 26, was fleeing from three Pike County deputies after one tried to stop him for a traffic offense.
Junk said the chase went from the middle of the county all the way to the west side.
Near the end of the chase, Junk said Rooker rammed the cruisers and that the deputies had to discharge their weapons to protect their own lives and didn’t have any other option.
Rooker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner, according to Junk.
The involved deputies were treated and released from an area hospital for minor injuries suffered during the incident.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
Once BCI concludes its investigation, Junk said the case will be presented to the grand jury for review.
