A young man is dead after being gunned down in an alley in the North Linden neighborhood overnight.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday near 2203 McGuffey Road.

A woman who identified herself as the victim’s mother-in-law told NBC4 that 25-year-old Gary Lee Johnson Jr. was on his way to a friend’s house when he was shot.

The victim’s wife went looking for him after he did not answer his phone. She found him in the driveway, went home and called 911.

Police later identified 2270 Hiawatha Park Drive as a possible location where the shooting actually happened.

Family members said Johnson was a family man who spent most of his time with his kids.

No arrests have been made, Columbus police homicide detectives spent most of the night at the scene looking for clues.
