Don’t Panic: Cannon Firing Today At Statehouse For Lincoln’s Repose

A Civil War-era cannon will be fired from the West Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in honor of the repose of President Abraham Lincoln.

The cannon firings will be done as part of the 150th anniversary of the “Repose of President Lincoln at the Ohio Statehouse and Civil War Encampment.” The event is designed to educate school groups and the public about Ohio’s role in the Civil War by fostering interest in the study of Ohio and American history through living history activities.

Activities will take place on the West Plaza (High Street) of the Ohio Statehouse and will involve the safe use and demonstration of the original Civil War cannons. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
