Police say Neil Fensler, 23, was arrested on a charge of murder Tuesday after the death of his alleged girlfriend Crista N. Spears, 26.

Columbus Police were called to 3925 Rosland Drive at 4:50 a.m. on the report of a female who was critically wounded after a shooting.

Officers found Spears, who was unresponsive, inside the residence. Paramedics transported her to Grant Hospital, and she was pronounced dead at 5:22 a.m.

Initial reports at the scene alluded to the victim being injured at her own hand or due to an accidental shooting. Police say after an investigation Fensler’s story was inconsistent with physical evidence, which revealed that Fensler was allegedly responsible. He and Spears moved from Green County, Ohio into the Rosland Drive town home with his father, according to police.

Homicide Sargent Jeff Strayer said the Franklin County Coroner will perform an autopsy on Spears on Wednesday. Fensler is in the Franklin County Jail and will be arraigned on Wednesday.

This is the 28th homicide in Columbus in 2015.
