Sobriety Checkpoints Planned For Mother’s Day Weekend

Columbus police will conduct two sobriety checkpoints on Mother’s Day weekend.

The first will take place Saturday between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of East Livingston Avenue and South Grant Avenue.

The second checkpoint will be Sunday between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.  at South High Street and Deshler Avenue.

According to a release, the locations were chosen due to a high rate of impaired driving in the surrounding areas.

Special officers trained in drug recognition will work at both checkpoints in an effort to flag drivers with impairments other than alcohol.

Police urge anyone planning to consume alcohol to use a designated driver.
