A child in the care of Major Jean Paul Kruse testified against the Ohio National Guard officer charged with raping her and two other young girls.
One of Kruse’s alleged victims told jurors how he touched her inappropriately six years ago when she was 8 or 9 years old.
We are not identifying the victims in this case or their relationship to Kruse and his wife Emily. She is also charged with intimidation and tampering with evidence involved in these crimes.
The state claimed in its opening remarks that Major Kruse raped three children in their care between 2006 -2012, all of them under the age of 13.
“There are people that needed to protect these girls and they failed to do that,” said Chris Kinsler of the Ohio Attorney General’s office. “Now the first and most obvious one is the defendant. The defendant violated that protection in the worst way possible. He is the one who should be protecting them, instead he perpetrated the abuse on them.”
Kruse’s defense attorney used previous testimony the young victim told authorities in the beginning in an effort to discredit her claims.
The young girl told jurors Kruse touch her inappropriately on two different occasions while she was in bed. She eventually told relatives, but the defense says her story changed.
The trial could continue for two more weeks. Kruse could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
