 (KRBC) The cowboys at Cross B Rodeo Company & Boys Ranch proved what it means to be Texas tough after riding into deep water to rescue their horses.

Owner Will Barrett says he and his family were away from town when severe weather blew through the Big Country on the weekend of May 8-10. 

When they arrived home at their ranch in Eastland, they were greeted with an unwelcome sight.

Over 10 inches of rain had washed over the property, and everything but pens were submerged under feet of water in their pasture alongside the Leon River. 

31 of their finest ponies and horses, including Barrett’s oldest son’s first pony Spanky who was on pasture retirement, had been washed away and were struggling to survive after the river overflowed and caused significant flooding.
