Crime investigators are hoping to find a woman who attacked a security guard in an attempted theft one month ago.

Surveillance cameras at the Kohl’s department store at 4865 N. Hamilton Road in Gahanna captured a woman entering the store at about 1:22 p.m. on May 7. She was spotted placing various items in her shopping cart, which were transferred into a large tote bag.

A security guard approached the woman as she was trying to leave, and an altercation developed. Officials said the woman struck the security member before escaping. The stolen merchandise was immediately recovered.

No one was seriously injured. Officials said the woman’s use of force elevated the crime from shoplifting to robbery.

The suspect is described as a black female between 20 and 36 years old with a medium build and short, black hair. She was last seen wearing a light green tank top and light-colored shorts. No vehicle description was available.
