One man is in police custody after two early morning robberies on the city’s east side.

According to Columbus police, 28-year-old Brandon Mason brandished a handgun and robbed the McDonald’s at Cassady Avenue and Airport Drive at around 6:00 a.m. Sunday. Mason then left the McDonald’s with an undisclosed amount of money and fled to the Waffle House next door where he again brandished a handgun, demanded money, and fled.

Police located Mason in an adjacent parking lot, and took him into custody. Police said that Mr. Mason was positively identified by multiple employees of the restaurants.

Initial reports from Columbus police dispatchers indicated that one person had been shot and transported to Riverside hospital as stable. A sergeant on the scene later told NBC4 that no one was shot or transported to a hospital.

NBC4 will provide updates as they become available.
