CENTRAL OHIO (WCMH) — Nearly 15 years after being disfigured in a car accident, a Columbus reverend is on a mission to spread his message of forgiveness.
Johannes Christian said he intends to walk to Cleveland to inspire other to forgive people who have wronged them.
Christian was injured in a car accident when a teenager threw a large rock off an overpass. The rock smashed his windshield and blinded him.
The teenager, Jacob McNary, pleaded guilty to attempted murder. He received a 12-year sentence. Since the incident, Christian has meet with McNary to forgive him.
“I believe that had I not forgiven Jacob for throwing that rock rock, I would have been a very bitter angry person,” Christian said. “I’ve seen a lot of persons that have gone through a lot of different situations and not learned how to let go, but I was able to let go and reach out in love to him. And when I did that, it freed me.”
Christian is also working with legislators to create a national day of forgiveness.
