Chillicothe woman found by woman familiar with missing cases

Loretta Lawson-McCrary

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WCMH)- The person to find a missing woman in Chillicothe Friday was someone who knows her, and knows heartache.

Loretta Lawson-McCrary, 30, was found safe Friday after being missing a few days.

Nicole Newland was the woman who found her.

“With my pastor, I was bawling, I looked up and there she was,” Newland said. “I jumped out of the car, grabbed her, hugged her.”

Newland is the step-mom of Shasta Himelrick, one of the missing women who turned up dead.

I didn’t want this to end like we have seen, it’s like it is expected,” Newland said.

But Friday, it didn’t end in heartbreak.

In fact Lawson-McCrary didn’t even know people were looking for her or that she was reported missing.

Chillicothe Police tell NBC4, the missing women task force now in place worked, and helped find her fast.

“This is what the task force is for, no longer does a deputy or officer take the initial report, it goes right to the task force,” officer Bud Lytle said. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
