Columbus firefighter killed in Union County crash

UNION COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) — A firefighter from the Columbus Division of Fire was killed in a crash Monday night.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 8 p.m. Monday on Bear Swamp Road in Liberty Township in Union County.

One vehicle, a 2010 Mercedes was involved in the crash.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Herman Tidwell, 48, was found ejected from the vehicle.

Tidwwell was a 23-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Fire

According to a news release, Tidwell was an accomplished firefighter. Tidwell received the Distinguished Service Award in 1995 and 2005. In 2011, he received the Fire Service Award of Merit.
