Baby suffering from fractured skull, father in court

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Court documents show a 5-month-old is being treated for a fractured skull and severe brain trauma.

James Howell is in court on Wednesday for endangering his baby, Thomas Howell.

Documents show the child’s injuries resulted in “profound neurological impairment.”

Police say the child’s mother Brenda Comeaux said Howell called her around 4:30 p.m. and said, “I threw Thomas.”

Comeaux’s asked what happened again and Howell repeated “I threw Thomas.”

Howell went to Nationwide’s Children’s Hospital and told the staff he was carrying Thomas when tripped and fell and Thomas’ head hit a pillow or bounced off the floor.

However, a child abuse pediatric doctor said Howell’s story is “not plausible” and not consistent with the baby’s injuries.

The judge gave Howell a $20,000 bond.
