LEWIS CENTER, Ohio (WCMH) –The body of 19-year-old Morgan Montgomery was found 46 feet underwater at Alum Creek on Monday evening.
“One of our…watercraft personnel received a good image on the side image sonar,” said Andrew Hollenback with the Ohio Division of Watercraft. “We put divers in the water and have made a recovery at this point.”
Montgomery was waterskiing on Alum Creek Sunday. She was floating in the water awaiting her boat to return to pull her out when she was struck by another boat.
The force of the collision knocked her life vest off.
Whether or not to the other boater committed a crime is still under investigation.
“There’s rules of the road in boating navigational rules that apply these type of situations,” said Hollenback, “such as proper lookout–you’re required to maintain a proper lookout for boating.”
Hollenback said there were no speed limits in the area Montgomery was in.
“It’s an open zone,” he said. “There is no horsepower limit…the area she was in is a ski area. It’s what we consider an open area.”
The 19-year-old camp counselor has been taken to the Delaware County morgue.
It’s believed her family is en route from Australia.
