Fatal crash shuts down I-270 on east side, south of I-70

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — I-270 southbound was shut down for several hours after a fatal accident on the east side, Columbus Police say.

According to Columbus police, a truck driver was driving south on I-270 south of I-70 when he veered off the west side of the road, went down an embankment and into the tree line.

The truck then caught fire.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway completely reopened around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Police have not released the identity of the driver.
