COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Columbus man was indicted Wednesday for allegedly setting his girlfriend on fire.
It is alleged in the indictment that Michael Slager threw gasoline on his girlfriend, who is 31, and then set her on fire behind the Speedway gas station at Stygler and Agler roads on Aug. 2.
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced today that the Franklin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Slager, 40, for one count of aggravated arson (F1), one count of felonious assault (F2), and one count of possession of criminal tools (F5).
Witnesses called 911 and the victim was transported to an area hospital where she still remains in critical condition.
“If convicted on all charges, Slager faces in excess of ten years in prison,” O’Brien said.
Slager will be arraigned next Monday, Aug. 17, at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 2B at 345 S. High Street.
