Officer dragged during overnight chase

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A police officer was briefly dragged during a chase in east Columbus Friday morning.

It all started shortly before 3 a.m. when an officer tried to pull over a man for traffic violations near Main Street and Kelton Avenue.

During that traffic stop, there was an altercation and an officer was briefly dragged by the suspect’s car as it took off, according to investigators.

The officer used both a Taser and mace on the suspect, but neither appeared to be effective.

The suspect was chased for a couple miles and was eventually taken into custody at a Turkey Hill near Broad Street and Nelson Road.

Medics treated the officer for minor injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody. Police say he will be charged with obstructing official business as well as traffic violations. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
