Former Ohio senator intern killed in D.C. shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCMH) — A former intern for Ohio Senator Rob Portman was killed Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch identified 23-year-old Matthew Shlonsky, a Lyndhurst, Ohio native, as the victim of a deadly shooting that took place at about 4:50 p.m. on August 15 in the 1800 block of Seventh Street in Washington, D.C.

On Sunday afternoon, Portman tweeted that Shlonsky and his family were in his thoughts.

Detectives are seeking a burgundy Chrysler 300, with a Maryland registration in connection to the shooting. The vehicle is equipped with a sunroof.  The vehicle was observed fleeing the area of the offense.
