Officer punched in the face during fight over construction noise

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A police officer was punched in the face during a construction noise dispute.

According to Columbus police, it happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. on the ramp to I-70 east from Sullivant Avenue.

Construction workers told police a man was upset over loud construction noise and said he was going to go home and get a gun.

Police say the suspect, 62-year-old Dwight Davis, then called police to report loud construction noise on the ramp in front of his home.

Investigators say Davis had previously made calls about noise on the ramp.

While officers were attempting to calm Davis down, they say he became belligerent, started cursing and punched Officer Peter Jacobs in the nose twice.

Davis was arrested by patrol officers and charged with assault on a peace officer, menacing and obstructing official business. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
