BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (WCMH)– A judge handed Brittany Pilkington a bond of $1 million Thursday as she was in court for the first time after prosecutors said she admitted to killing her three sons.
Pilkington called 911 Tuesday saying the baby, 3-month-old Noah, had stopped breathing.
Later investigators say she admitted to killing that child, her 4-year-old, and another 3-month-old last year.
“She has confessed to holding a blanket over the faces of all three of her children, and holding them either face down or face up,” said Logan County Prosecutor William Goslee.
Outside of the courtroom Lori Cummins, Pilkington’s mother, said she spoke with her daughter by telephone.
Cummins said Pilkington denied killing her children and she said the alleged confession only came after several hours of police interrogation.
Pilkington’s court-appointed attorney, Marc Triplett, told NBC4 that he will examine the circumstances surrounding the confession.
Investigators and prosecutors worked through this case, and came to this conclusion: This mother wanted her boys dead. Investigators said she did it for more attention from her husband for her and her only daughter.
“This mother had this plan, for this child whether it was six days, six months or five years. She was going to do the same thing to this child because it was her plan to eliminate male children,” said Goslee.
Goslee said he won’t likely seek the death penalty because of the background of Brittany Pilkington, including the fact she had been dominated by her husband Joseph Pilkington, 43, who had been her mother’s live-in boyfriend at one point. Goslee said she apparently feared how the boys would grow up, and described her daughter Hailey as her only friend.
“It was her plan to eliminate male children in order that this father would have more attention available for her and for Hailey the daughter,” Goslee said. “That’s a fact.”
