LANCASTER, Ohio (WCMH)–A 23-year-old Columbus man was arrested Thursday on federal charges of producing and distributing child pornography. Agents raided the east side apartment of Eric Chavis and the Lancaster home of his ex-girlfriend Casey Casto.
According to the federal complaint, investigators first learned about the videos In March this year during a prostitution sting at a Columbus hotel. One of the girls encountered by officers with the Human Trafficking Task Force was a 17 year old who told them about making videos with Chavis when she was 16.
Investigators say they found numerous videos produced by Chavis online. They say the girls in the videos are shown in various states of undress and performing sex acts.
Chavis was taken into custody at his apartment on Barclay Square in Columbus.
Casto and her father Charles Barker say they were stunned when federal agents came pounding on their door. “The doors busted in and the guys had masks and guns,” Barker said. “We didn’t do anything. We were just laying there handcuffed on the floor wondering what’s going on.”
Casto says agents seized phones, computers and cameras.
Chavis promotes himself online as a musician and pornographer. His videos are sexually explicit and investigators say some of them featured the girl who was 16 years old at the time.
“if I had known that I would have left him in the beginning,” Casey Casto told NBC4.
Casto says she and Chavis started dating more than two years ago.
She says they just recently broke up but that Chavis used to stay at her house in Lancaster.
Casto says she didn’t know an underage girl was involved but she did know Chavis was making pornographic videos. “It was his music,” Casto said. “He thought it was a good way to promote his music. He was singing and the girls would be there dancing on him or whatever, naked or whatever and it was disgusting.”
Casto says while she did not approve of the videos, she stayed with Chavis for more than two years because she loved him.
Charles Barker says he was unaware of the videos but says he knew Chavis was trouble and had warned his daughter. “I told her a long time ago she shouldn’t be hanging around with him. Her grandmother told her too. She didn’t listen.”
Chavis faces federal charges of producing and distributing child pornography and could face up to 50 years in prison.
