2 injured in Newark house fire

NEWARK, Ohio (WCMH) — A woman who is confined to a bed due to health issues suffered life threatening injuries when flames engulfed her bed, according to firefighters.

Chief Conner of the Newark Fire Department said his crews responded to the 1100 block of Empire Drive Thursday night where they found a woman trapped in her bed surrounded by fire.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the woman had already suffered severe burns to a large portion of her body. She was flown to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in life threatening condition.

The Chief said another occupant in the house was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation, and is expected to recover.
The fire is under investigation.
