One dead after head-on collision on Sunbury Road

Sunbury Road is closed while Franklin County deputies investigate a fatal crash.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio (WCMH) — Sunbury Road has reopened following a two-vehicle fatal crash.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:41 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to the area of Sunbury Road near Dempsey Road on the report of a two-vehicle crash between a pick-up truck and a Rumpke garbage truck.

Deputies said the pick-up truck was traveling northbound on Sunbury Road, when it crossed the center line and struck the garbage truck head-on, causing it to roll onto its side.

The driver of the pick-up truck, Beningo Sandoval, of Columbus, was transported to St. Ann’s Hospital where he later died.

The driver of the garbage truck, 32-year-old Keith Henne, of Sunbury, was taken to Westerville Emergency Care where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Deputies said the crash remains under investigation, but drugs and alcohol appear to not be a factor.

The road is closed for more than six hours as Franklin County deputies worked at the scene.
