TAIPEI, Taiwan (NBC News) A 12-year-old boy accidentally damaged a 350-year-old painting at an exhibition in Taiwan over the weekend.
Accorting to TST Art of Discovery Co., which co-organized the exhibition, the boy tripped and caught his balance by pushing against a 17th-centrury oil on canvas painting, reported to be by the Italian master Paolo Porpora.
The head of the company said “The boy’s hand made contact with the artwork and left a hole the size of a fist.”
He claims the painting is Porpora’s “Flowers” and is worth more than one million dollars.
A Taiwanese art specialist was called to help restore the painting.
