COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — If you listen to Ohio State coaches they’ll say neither OSU’s defense nor offense has an edge over the other during practice. If you ask players, you’ll likely get a different response.
OSU’s defense put on some impressive performances to power the Buckeyes to the National Championship this past season, and the Bucks lost just 4 starters off last year’s defense. So you can understand why some of their returning starters, especially safety Tyvis Powell, might be inclined to say the defense owns an edge on the Buckeye offense.
But even co-defensive coordinator, Chris Ash, says that’s not what coaches want for the overall good of the team. He says ideally you’d like to see both sides of the ball make spectacular plays and he says so far in OSU’s training camp he’s seen just that.
OSU opens at Virginia Tech Sept. 7.
