COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)-Thousands of Buckeye fans are preparing for a new Ohio State football season. The excitement started before noon for some students.
One group of Ohio State students spent Labor Day swimming in an above ground pool right on the their front lawn right off Indianola Ave.
Student Alex Difrancesco says this game against Virginia Tech is particularly important to Buckeye Nation, “This is a revenge game because all year we have had to listen to them say, ‘Oh yeah, but you lost to us,’ That’s going to end.”
Other students gathered on front lawns playing games like Frisbee and cornhole just waiting for kickoff.
OSU student Madison Torres says there is something special about this time of year, “Everyone is yelling ‘O-H-I-O!’ and ‘Go Bucks!’ It’s just awesome to be part of such a huge community.”
As some fans play on a slip in slide near campus, others are buying merchandise. One retailer says excitement translates directly into dollars.
College Traditions owner Kelly Dawes explains, “The closer we get to the first game, the more they are coming out. They’re getting their stuff. This weekend has just been crazy here.”
Dawes adds her business, College Traditions, has seen a 40 percent increase in sales since the bucks won the national title. This excitement for these buckeyes is not expected to dip anytime soon.
