Shooting injures 1 in Franklinton; police identify suspect

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police are looking for Chance Anthony Smith, 19, in connection with a Franklinton-area shooting from Wednesday morning.

According to Columbus police, it happened just before 11:30 a.m. on North Central Avenue, just north of West Broad Street. The victim was taken to Mt. Carmel West in critical condition and was later listed as being stable.

Police say a disagreement started in the home. Smith and another white man forced the victim and his wife into a room and began questioning them about alleged missing property. When they refused, Smith allegedly pulled out a shotgun and fired at the victim. He and the other suspect fled the scene in a black vehicle.

Smith is wanted on a charge of felonious assault. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
