YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WCMH) — Two people charged in connection with the death of a man on Champion Avenue were arrested in Mahoning County.
According to jail records, Danyell Florida, 37 and Kalene Bartlett, 22 are in custody in the Mahoning County Jail.
Florida and Bartlett were charged Monday with abuse of a corpse after the body of Dametrious L. Edwards was found in the basement of a home on the 700 block of Champion Avenue on Sunday.
Edwards was previously reported missing on September 7.
Officers were sent to the Champion Avenue home early Sunday morning to check on the well-being of Edwards. According to court documents, Florida answered the door and told officers that he did not know where Edwards was.
Officers were called to the same home at 2:42 p.m. Sunday on an unknown call. Officers arrived several minutes later and were told by family members that Edwards was found in the basement and appeared to be dead.
Detectives said it appeared Edwards had been dead for several days, according to court documents.
