Man identified in Mound Street fatal crash when vehicle hits church

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)– Columbus police have identified a man who was killed after he allegedly stole a vehicle and crashed into a church.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 2:01 a.m., September 17, 45-year-old William Ziegler was driving a stolen 2000 Saab sedan westbound on West Mound Street when he struck a church in the area of South Wayne Avenue.

A witness told police the vehicle was traveling at speeds well in excess of the speed limit when it failed to make a curve and hit the church.

Ziegler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
