Late night swim turns tragic in north Columbus

UPDATE: Officials have identified Thang Khan Kim, a 30-year-old man from Yangon in Myanmar (Burma), as the victim. Police said Kim has been in the United States since April.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A late night swim in an apartment complex pond turned tragic along Belcher Drive.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, a man called to report his friend had gone into the pond, but he never saw him come out. Fire department personnel found shoes and a pile of clothes when they arrived at the pond.

After about a 30 minute search of the pond, the Columbus Fire Department Dive Team recovered a man’s body from the pond.

The man was taken to Riverside hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
