Meyer says Buckeyes, coaches not lacking effort

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Urban Meyer says he loves the effort from his players and coaches, but it’s the consistent, in-game execution he still needs to see. Ohio State hosts Maryland Saturday at Noon for Homecoming, and the Buckeyes enter the game as the nation’s #1 ranked and, perhaps, most scrutinized team.

Ohio State ranks among the bottom 20% of the teams in FBS in several important categories, including turnovers, 3rd down conversions and red zone offense. Cardale Jones, while 8-0 as a starting QB at Ohio State, has been sharply criticized for many of the offensive problems.

Here’s Meyer’s comments following Wednesday night’s practice addressing those topics. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
