Second suspect arrested in connection with fatal July shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a July fatal shooting that occurred in the 5400 block of Livingston Avenue.

According to Columbus police SWAT officers arrested 19-year-old Paris Royal just after 9:30 Friday night. Royal is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail charged with the murder of 19-year-old John Pope II.

Columbus police said officers responded to a report of a shooting on July 11, 2015, and found Pope dead inside his apartment.

Court documents show that a warrant was issued for Royal’s arrest two days after the shooting. Homicide detectives also filed charges against 18-year-old Tykeim Mayes who was already in custody on an unrelated charge. Mayes remains in the Franklin County Jail.
