Theft suspect sits at bar for 3 hours before allegedly leaving with cash

CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio (WCMH) — A brazen thief allegedly staked out a restaurant, stealing cash, receipts and valuables, and to add insult to injury, the employees said he did a dine and dash along with the stolen items.

Between 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night at Shades on the Canal, a downtown Canal Winchester restaurant and bar, employees claim the man seen in this surveillance video still photograph, allegedly stole items from the bar area.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this felony theft, but at this point is calling the man “a person of interest.”

A server at the bar said he sat there nearly three hours,  drank only water and ordered food, telling her he was waiting on a friend who never showed.

Seen in surveillance video at 10:30 the man can be seen pacing up and down the hall by the bathrooms. The manager of Shades said she thinks he was making sure he could get out the back exit before he ran out. He allegedly took $600 in cash, two IPhone 6’s, car keys, a credit card and a military ID all stuffed in waitresses’ money pouches sitting on the bar.

“We just want this guy to be found, because honestly if he is not found he is just going to keep doing it and we don’t want that to happen, so the more people that know this will see his face and look out for him,” said Manager Hannah Parker.

Detectives describe the guy they want to question as of average build, in his mid-20s and possibly Hispanic.

Employees said the man ran out of the back exit towards the parking lot where they lost sight of him.
