GALENA, Ohio (WCMH) — Rescue boats have halted their search for a person who reportedly wound up in the water while sailing on the Hoover Reservoir earlier this evening.
The search began after a 911 call from another person on the boat. The caller told authorities the sailboat had left from Red Bank Harbor earlier and suffered a power failure. As the boat was drifting, it lodged against a sandbar. The missing man hopped into the water to push the boat free and became separated from boat and was unable to get back on board.
The boat continued to drift for about 15 minutes before coming ashore near the Sunbury Road bridge. The other boater is ashore.
Rescue crews from Genoa Township, Westerville, Berlin Township and Watershed Management all searched for hours both on the water and along the shoreline.
The search will resume at some time after sunrise tomorrow.
NBC4 will update as more information becomes available.
