Wow, what an amazing Thursday. We have breaks in the clouds, and the record high for today is within reach!!! So far as of the time of this writing we have hit 73, with about 3 more hours of peak heating, so I do expect us to flirt with, if not break the record. Just like yesterday it is going to depend on the amount of sunshine that breaks through the clouds.
To put into perspective how wild our warm start has been so far this month, our record high was set 38 years ago. As of right now we are averaging 8.6 degrees above normal for the month, and when today is over, that number should jump about 10. Quite a contrast from a year ago when we opened the month about 3 and half degrees below normal, and closed the entire month more than 6 and half degrees below normal.
Cloudy yesterday, clouds again today, is this normal to see these clouds in November?
In short, yes. November is a typically cloudy month here in Central Ohio. Not as cloudy as its younger brother December, but still. So far this month, we have had only 4 days complete, and 1 was classified as clear, 2 as partly cloudy, and 1 as cloudy. That is a very teeny tiny data set, but already something stands out compared to last November (2014), the amount of clouds. So far our 1 clear day equals the total for the entire 30 day month last November. 50% of that month had what was considered a cloudy day. That helped to keep temps down.
Now we do have a cold front rushing our way for tonight/tomorrow morning, and that will bring rain, maybe some storms too. But it will be an active front and should move east quickly. clearing us out. I think by the time we finish the weekend, we could add a couple more day to our “clear skies” total, and may even add another day for next Monday. Sadly the air mass will be much more typical for November, so sunshine will only yield temps in the low/mid 50s.
Bottom line, love the warm temps (or hate them), you should go out and enjoy them today/this evening. The odds of us getting a lot more 70 degree days between now and Spring aren’t great. I’m still saying there is a chance though 😉
