COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Cameron Mitchell owns more than 50 restaurants, with over a dozen in Central Ohio, and he has more on the way.
NBC4’s Monica Day sat down with Mitchell to talk about how he came to be and why his company continues to flourish.
From an early age, Cameron Mitchell says he was focused on his future.
“I knew I wanted to be president of a restaurant company when I was 18-years-old. So I was really going to culinary school and working towards that goal, but I really had no idea wat that meant. I certainly had no aspirations of my own company at the time. I was just thinking of working my way up in some company,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell’s name has become synonymous with quality dining in Central Ohio, with each restaurant offering a unique experience.
“We want all of our restaurants to feel like a collection of independent restaurants, number one. Two, to have a characteristic that at the same token a lot of times we want to feel like they just stepped out of Columbus and maybe into New York,” said Mitchell.
Recently, Mitchell took a big gamble, opening Ocean Prime, his coast to coast fine dining concept, in the heart of the restaurant industry in New York on 52nd Street.
Mitchell said of the project, “It’s been huge. I’ve been working on that site for probably six years now, probably 15 to 20 trips to Manhattan to identify the right location, right spot and get the right deal.”
