Gas prices continue to drop as holiday season nears

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — It is the perfect time for a break on gas prices, and they just keep going down.

We checked and found gas selling for $1.59 a gallon on Columbus’s southwest side.

Kimberly Schwind, AAA spokesperson, says lower gas prices at this time of year are not uncommon.

“We have abundant supplies of crude oil globally, domestically and we also have abundant supplies of gasoline. This time of year we tend to see the lowest prices of the year,” she said.

Most Midwest refineries are up and working, plus stations have switched to a cheaper winter blend of gas. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
