COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Late Tuesday, Columbus police started searching the home of Barry Kirk, the man believed to have shot and killed a man, a woman, and their 7-year old boy in a home across the street on Terrace Avenue yesterday.
John Anderson lost his only biological son, also named John–as well as his daughter-in-law Christina and his grandson Landon in that shooting. His 12-year-old granddaughter Kylie was injured.
Police say Kirk, his son’s friend and fellow motorcycle rider, walked across the street, into the house, and opened fire on the family.
“We’re not handling it,” he said. “We don’t know what to do next, you know? I mean, we’re trying to get everything together, we’re trying to get everybody together cause everything’s so scattered around right now.”
“Barry, he had his stuff together,” said Jason Lozier, another relative. “He was a union carpenter… I think he was a member of the Armed Forces. I mean I don’t know his story but, I mean, he was married, I don’t understand why he would just walk off of his porch and go shoot my family.”
Police and family members are still wondering why this happened. John Anderson says Barry Kirk and his son were friends…until an argument this summer.
He says it was ‘basically over nothing,’ but the two stopped speaking.
“Stay close to your loved ones and love them as much as you can… Because you never know when they’re not going to be there one day,” Anderson said.
