MURRIETA, California (WCMH)– A high school teacher in Murrieta, California is accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her students.
Shannon Fosgett, 44, faces charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 18 and two counts of oral copulation with a minor.
Detectives say Fosgett began showing interest in the student more than a year ago through texting after school hours and then quickly escalated.
“As the relationship grew, the minor and the teacher engaged in oral sex and ultimately sexual intercourse,” the news release says.
When other students learned of the ongoing sexual relationship, they told school officials who ultimately called police.
Fosgett resigned from her job last Thursday and was arrested the following day. She’s out on bail.
