RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — Police say a man shot an officer in the chest before police shot and killed him in northeast Ohio.
Authorities say the wounded Richmond Heights police sergeant was in serious but stable condition Sunday night.
Chief Gene Rowe says officers responded to a home around 7 p.m. for a man threatening suicide. Police say the man agreed to leave with the officers, but grabbed a gun while he was getting his clothes and shot the officer in the chest. The 19-year police veteran wasn’t wearing a bulletproof vest.
Police say another other officer fatally shot the suspect. Investigators didn’t immediately identify him.
It’s unclear how many times the suspect was shot or if anyone else was in the house at the time.
