URBANA, Ohio (WCMH)–Friday, the man accused of killing a 4-year-old boy in Champaign County was arraigned, and got a $1 million bond.
Michael Stapleton was indicted on 9 counts including murder, felonious assault, and involuntary manslaughter.
The grand jury returned the indictment accusing Stapleton of beating the boy he was caring for, using a belt, and causing his eventual death. The boy was pronounced dead at Nationwide Children’s Hospital on Nov. 29.

After court, NBC4’s Marcus Thorpe talked with the little boy’s father, Brett Jaynes, who called Stapleton a monster.
“In this case, you never know who’s the monster under your roof,” he said. “You never know the monster you’re looking at down the street. My definition of a monster isn’t Frankenstein–it’s someone who would do something like this.”
If convicted, Stapleton is looking at charges up to life in prison.
His next court appearance is set for Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.
