DENVER, Colo. (NBC News) — A Denver family got the surprise of their life when they made a pickup at the airport.

Cheryel Long told her four daughters that they had to go to the airport to pick up her boss. In reality, Cheryel had something more special planned.

The girls’ father, Navy Chief Warrant Officer Robert Long would be returning home a month early.

KUSA in Denver reported Robert has been stationed in Japan for the last 15 months.

“Does that guy look just like your daddy?” Cheryel said as Robert came into view. “That guy looks just like your dad…”

After spotting him, the girls ran across the room to greet him with a big hug before declaring “Best snow day ever. Best snow day ever.”

Robert Long will be spending Christmas and New Year’s Day with his family in Colorado before heading back to Japan. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
