MADISON COUNTY, Neb. (NBC News) – Dash camera video shows a Nebraska deputy jumping into a moving tractor-trailer, possibly saving the driver’s life.
Deputies followed the truck for 12 miles, believing the driver was trying to evade a traffic stop.
The Sheriff’s Office sent vehicles ahead of the truck in order to clear a path, but a number of more populated areas were coming up. Deputies believed they had one last chance to stop the truck.
When the time was right, Sergeant Todd Volk got out of his car, ran across the highway and jumped into the cab of the moving truck to get it stopped.
It turned out, the driver’s blood sugar had dropped to a severely low level and he didn’t know he was diabetic before the incident.
The driver was given a glucose test and taken to the hospital.
Volk told WOWT-TV he hasn’t had a chance to talk to the driver, but has been told he’s expected to recover.
