BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (WCMH)– Ohio’s largest snowmaking system was fired up at Mad River Mountain today.
The snowmaking was in full blast earlier today, as Mad River Mountain’s 130 snow guns were used over the 144 acres of skiable terrain. The land will need to be covered with six to 12 inches of snow before they can open to the public. It has come a long way since a fire in September burned the lodge down.
The warmer temperatures this December has affected the opening date for Mad River Mountain, but workers will be out in full force this weekend, working on the slopes.
“If it had been a couple of nice cold night where it gets down in the teens we probably would be closer to opening. We really try to hit that Christmas holiday opening consistently,” said General Manager Tom Price.
Price said they are hoping to make an announcement of an official start date after this weekend’s snowmaking campaign.
