Family reunited after military daughter surprises mom

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – One military mom got an early Christmas present as she picked out some flowers Saturday morning.

WJTV’s Lucy Dieckhaus shows us the happy reunion.

Deborrah Ferrell is a military mom who has wished and waited for her daughter to return home.

“Oh i am so proud of her. She has always been a little go getter,” said Ferrell.

And that wish was granted at a Kroger store off of Interstate 55 in Jackson Saturday morning.

”I just wanted to surprise her at her favorite store and do something for her to show her I’m thankful for what she did for me,” said Kelli Ferrell Rogers.

“She really did surprise me because i thought she was just leaving Virginia this morning. I had no idea she was already here,” said Ferrell.

While Kelli Ferrell Rogers has served our country in the navy, Her mom has taken care of Kelli’s young daughter and today the whole family was reunited.

The Kroger store manager says he was excited to see the happy family together once again.

“We really did. We wanted to make it a big surprise for her and the little lady too the daughter. It was a little bit behind the scenes but it wasn’t out of the way,” said Anthony Brownell.

During the holiday season Rogers asks people to remember the veterans who protect our American freedoms.

“It’s a thankless job but someone has to do it just thankful to complete a worldwide deployment just gives you a lot of pride. And we’re just excited we can do it we just need a support system out there to help us out,” said Rogers.

Rogers says she chose Kroger because her mom shops there almost every day and she had to get her somewhere she was comfortable.

Kroger’s store manager says they would help organize surprises for other military families. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
