COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–Nearly 70 soldiers from the Ohio Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 137th Aviation Regiment returned to their families, who had been anxiously awaiting their arrival at Port Columbus Monday.
They provided aviation support for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Some military families were not expecting the soldiers to return until March.
Kayleigh Eggerton had been on her own with her four kids for almost a year now in Mount Vernon while her boyfriend Tylar McDowell served in Kuwait
She found out a few days ago that McDowell was coming back Monday instead of in March.
“It’s been really rough but I’ve had a lot of help from his mom and friends,” said Eggerton.
She told her children they were coming to pick up a Christmas present at the airport .
That present turned out to be their dad.
“It’s amazing. I can’t believe that I’m home for Christmas. I just feel bad for all of the people who are still over there,” said McDowell.
