Some military families were not expecting the soldiers to return until March.

She found out a few days ago that McDowell was coming back Monday instead of in March.

“It’s been really rough but I’ve had a lot of help from his mom and friends,” said Eggerton.

She told her children  they were coming to pick up a Christmas present at the airport .

That present turned out to be their dad.

“It’s amazing. I can’t believe that I’m home for Christmas. I just feel bad for all of the people who are still over there,” said McDowell. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
