ALACHUA, Fla. (WFLA) – When Arthur, a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office horse, retired Thursday, he was reunited with his former partner. Lance retired earlier this year.

Both horses now live at the Mill Creek Farm Retirement Home For Horses in Alachua, Florida. A beautiful photograph shows their reunion. “It was a joyful reuniting of the two horses,” deputies said.

Arthur and Lance actually began their law enforcement careers together, arriving at the sheriff’s office as a pair in December 2007. It’s believed they’ve been together all their lives.

“We promised them they would always stay together, and with the exception of Lance leaving a little early, they are together, forever, kicking it in the green pastures at Mill Creek, enjoying a well-earned retirement,” deputies said. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
