COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Commissary, a maker space for food and drink stands as the new Columbus location for the non-profit organization “Recycle Pots & Pans,” and it aims to provide kitchen utensils to families in need.
“There so many families that are getting support from the community and food pantries, but they don’t have a way to prepare those fresh foods or healthier foods,” The Commissary owner, Kate Djupe said.
For this reason, Djupe decided to make The Commissary a drop-off donation center for gently used kitchen items. Pots, pans, bowls, glasses, forks, spoons, and knives are all needed.
Djupe said, “It’s sad to think about…but there are families that don’t have any of that, so this is an opportunity for us to figure out what that need is and try and give them everything they need.”
The Commissary’s garage stands a perfect donation location. People can drive right through to drop off donated items, and Djupe hopes the few shelves they currently have allocated for “Recycle Pots & Pans” will not be enough space for their year-round initiative.
The Commissary is located at 1400 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215. They welcome people to drop off unwanted kitchen utensils every Thursday night between 4pm and 7pm, the first Saturday of every month between 10am and 1pm, or by appointment.
