KAY COUNTY, Okla (WCMH) — Country singer Craig Strickland has been reported missing after a duck-hunting trip in stormy conditions on an Oklahoma lake over the weekend.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and NBC affiliate KFOR, troopers began searching for 29-year-old Craig Strickland, who is the lead singer of country-rock group Backroad Anthem, and his 22-year-old friend Chase Morland on Sunday after the pair did not return from a duck hunting trip on Kaw Lake.
Morland’s body was found on Monday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Search efforts were delayed after that due to weather.
Troopers said no personal flotation devices were in use, and the boat has not been recovered from the lake.
Backroad Anthem said on its Facebook page that the band members were “trying to think of a scenario where he is still alive. Hoping against the odds. We can’t even stand to think about it. We are devastated.”
A message posted on Morland’s social media accounts appeared to foreshadow the tragedy. He wrote on Twitter: “In case we don’t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma.”
