None injured in fire in Anheuser-Busch brewery

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus firefighters have contained a fire at the Anheuser-Busch facility on Schrock Road.

Multiple units responded to the facility at 700 Schrock Road after reports of a fire came in just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fire Chief Tracy Smith tells NBC4 that a conveyor belt system at the facility caught fire. Firefighters were initially able to knock down the flames, but the fire keeps flaring up.

There are no reported injuries, but there is heavy smoke inside the facility. The damage is still being assessed and the fire remains under investigation.

Jackie Hamel, general manager of the Columbus brewery, issued the following statement Saturday evening regarding the fire:

Tonight a fire occurred on a line that was undergoing maintenance work. There were no employees injured, and employees who responded were well-trained and they managed it properly.

At Anheuser-Busch, safety is our top priority and we take comprehensive measures to provide a safe work environment for our employees. We have long-standing programs in place that include general safety training for employees, as well as job-specific training for individuals.
